Dundee Tourist Information & Travel Guide

As you approach the Tay Road Bridge whether by car or by train through the Tay Rail Bridge you begin to understand why they call the river “Silvery Tay”. The city is situated on the east coast of Scotland on the north bank of the firth of Tay.

Dundee is Scotland’s fourth largest city and one of the most beautiful! Driving across the bridge you can clearly see the Law Hill. The city is built around this extinct volcano. You can drive right up to the top of the hill and from this vantage point you can see the whole of Dundee!

Dundee is Scotland’s sunniest city (it faces south) with over 1400 hours of sunshine every year.

Its title “City of Discovery” comes from the HM Frigate Unicorn, the oldest surviving ship in the UK.

Dundee is known for its “3 Js” – Jute, Jam & Journalism. Although the Jute & Jam industry is no longer predominant in Dundee, you can still see the towers associated with the industry. Verdant Works is ideal for tourists wishing to learn about Dundee’s Jute Industry.

Keillers of Dundee pioneered the manufacture of marmalade here. They bought a shipload of oranges which they were unable to sell.

Janet Keiller specialized in selling jam and using her knowledge invented marmalade.

Although Jute and Jam are no longer made in Dundee, the journalism sector still thrives. The company began as a branch of the Thomson family business. In 1884, David Couper Thomson took over the publishing business, and established it as DC Thomson in 1905. The firm flourished, and now produces more than 200 million comics, books and magazines every year.

Dundee is also a university town with a student population averaging about 32,000.

Due to the high numbers of students, Dundee has a lively pub and club scene. The 2 most popular night clubs are Fat Sams & London Night Club.

A recent quality of life survey ranked Dundee near the top due to its clean air, low pollution levels, riverside location and high sunshine hours.

Shopping in Dundee has now taken off with 2 major shopping centres (Overgate & Wellgate) under pinning the west and east of the city centre. The number of out of town shopping centres in Dundee means that the city attracts shoppers from all the small towns nearby.

The town is a fantastic holiday location with Broughty Ferry having one of the cleanest beaches in the UK.

The city is an ideal starting point for touring the best of Scotland with almost all major attractions less then 100 miles away. Kenmore, Loch Earn, Loch Ness and Ben Nevis are beautiful destinations in their own right. The three other major cities, Edinburgh, Aberdeen & Glasgow are all approximately an hours drive.

The Obvious and Unobvious Reasons You Cannot Win at Blackjack

Not to blaspheme the Gods and Goddesses of Las Vegas to whom we
pay tribute but one cannot win at the game of 21. Shortly you
will understand why. In the meantime does Blackjack refer to the
Jack of spades or the Jack of clubs? Why does the Jack have 2
heads? Was the name Jack derived from the name John and how did
they get from John to Jack? Poor little John John. His mommy
wouldn’t let him marry Darryl Hannah. “I’ll be damned if I have
a mermaid for a daughter in law”, said Jackie Kennedy as she
sipped Ouzo aboard the Christina, her h<a href="http://www.

linksyswireless.info” target=”_blank”>usband’s 532 foot yacht
cruising the pearl blue seas of the Mediterranean one hot July
afternoon in 1969. “But she’s not a mermaid mom, that was just a
movie.” “Movie Shmoovie”, said Jackie O, “She’s beneath you.”

The road to Hell is paved with bad intentions. John the Baptist
was doing fine until he laid 3 to 1 on a young Jewish Prince
overthrowing the husband of Herodius, which bet caused his head
to roll at the behest of a 14 year old lap dancer named Salome
who preferred the Royal Palace to a dirt hole in Iraq.

Imagine
little George “the drinks are on me” Bush captured in a dirt
hole in Nevada by 5 Iranian soldiers. Don’t worry. It’s not
going to happen. We have the family guarding Las Vegas, not
Fema. Hollywood has hypnotized us with James Bond movies giving
us the illusion that our leaders are invincible and will always
protect us. That’s why 30,000 men, women and children starved to
death like Ethiopians 300 miles from Houston for 5 days. When
100 Megaton Muslim Nuclear suicide bombs start raining down on
Las Vegas like hail in a Kansas tornado, be sure to call Fema
when 10 square miles of the strip are turned into a radioactive
parking lot instantly.

“Drove my Chevy to the levee but the
levee was dry, singin’ this will be the day that I die, singin’
this will be the day that I die.”

Before we get into the reason that the house has you dead to
rights at the blackjack table, let me ask you a question. Yes,
you, the person staring at your computer monitor’s white light
wishing that I would get to the point already. That is the
point. There is no point. “The point is 12, come, pioneer audio receiver, on shooter,
we’ve got a hot shooter tonight ladies and gentleman.

” Why do
the bells go off and the lights flash when someone gets 2
cherries at the slot machine? Instead of heralding the winners,
what would happen if every time that someone lost a bet to the
one armed bandit, funeral dirges blasted out over the Pioneer
speakers? What if instead of naked women serving free
screwdrivers at the blackjack tables men dressed as terrorists
served Jimmy Jones Kool Aids? The point is we all die sooner or
later so why do we spend our lives terrorized that we or our
children will die? Anyone with even one quarter of a brain who
pays attention to what’s going on in the world today has to be
on at least 2 major tranquilizers.

And this is an unobvious
reason that you cannot win at blackjack. You aren’t there to
win; you are there to escape into the drunken frenzy of flashing
lights and naked women hoping against hope for the big win, so
that for once in your life you can be the big hero.

O.K. Lets get serious for one moment. Here comes the reason that
you cannot win at blackjack ever. Imagine this scenario. 7
people are sitting at the blackjack table. The dealer is showing
a Queen of Hearts just prior to ripping out your heart and
eating it.

Players number 1 through 6 all bust. The dealer, the
house, the casino, Steve Wynn, he shortened it from Weinberg, or
Weinstein, or Weinrib or something so that Sheiks would come to
“his” resorts, and the family thought that it would be good
marketing for Las Vegas to be named after the word “Win”. So 6
people have now busted, lost lets say $60 to the house, the
casino, and the dealer has done absolutely nothing except stand
there silently like a guard outside of Buckingham Palace. Player
number 7 has 17.

The dealer turns over a 5 for 15 then gives
himself a 10 for 25. So he pays out $10 to player 7 who cannot
believe that he just won with 17, and the casino just won $50 at
this one table on this one hand.

How can this be? How can the dealer beat 6 people with 25?
“Elementary my dear Watson, the dealer always plays last. The
dealer always plays last. The dealer always plays last.”

Imagine the Super Bowl. Dallas is playing New York. The final
score is Dallas 21 New York 15 and New York wins. You drew 22,
the dealer drew 25, and he won your 10 dollars.

He busted out
and he beat you because? The dealer always plays last.

Did I mention that the dealer always plays last? This is how the
owners of the casinos have managed to build lavish 3,000 room
hotels for a hundred years on sand dunes and give away free
screwdrivers. If for one night the dealer went first, every
hotel in Las Vegas would join General Motors and Ford on the
bread lines. China pays its workers 23 cents a day. This fall
China is introducing a car into the United States of America
called the Gigli.

The Gigli looks like a Toyota, sells for
$9,000 and gets 218 miles per gallon. It runs on rice. Short GM
and Ford with every dime that you had planned on investing in
Las Vegas. You will become an overnight zillionaire.

Buy & Sell Used Cars

It’s best to stature out precisely how much you can afford to squander, pioneer audio receiver, . You know what you have to put down, you know what you can afford per month — but how does that decipher to a sticker price, in particular taking into account taxes and finance charges? There are several car-payment calculators that will do the math for you (you’ll find one here from Autox) However, if you prefer to do the math manually, here’s a relatively simple method.

What you can afford for a downhill payment. If you are trading in a car, visit a used car pricing site to calculate the car’s approximate value (use the trade-in value, which is the lowest figure and represents what you can probably expect the dealership to offer) and add that to your subtotal. Valuing a second-hand car is both intention (year, make, and model) and prejudiced (appearance and condition). Normally, this would not be an issue if all cars were indistinguishable regrettably; second hand cars are all very distinctive.

A company is under no compulsion to pay for out-of-warranty repairs, as it must when an automobile defect endangers lives or pollutes the ambiance. But rather than create miserable customers, many companies bend the rules. Head on to autox.in for this great free addictive tool and give your visitors a value added service. Another great initiative to promote hybrid cars was taken by Autox Company in India.

The only decisive factor for this discount is that the car should be upbringing friendly.

Affirmation to Pre Owned Cars for acknowledging well deserved ecological friendly car owners. Outfitted with the scorecard and the following checklist, you can test a car meticulously in less than an hour. But you may also want to test drive the car at night or on a showery day to get a feel for how it handles in less-than-perfect conditions.

I will suggest that car owners take steps to reduce liberate and collapse of these chemicals by using solar reflectors, ventilating car interiors, and parking outside of sunlight whenever possible.

“We can no longer rely just on seatbelts and airbags to keep us safe in cars,” said a proclamation from Company, There are safer alternatives to these chemicals, and pioneering companies that develop them first will likely be rewarded by consumers.” The gas price tool display local gas prices in real time. Simply input the area code for the area and it would give up-to-date gas price which enable you to plan your next trip ahead, for the prices involved. This tool gives amazingly closest/real values and I am not sure how every time day after day they maintain these data.

Workstation – Super Fast Computer

In general term workstation means computer for specific reason connected with LAN. A workstation is a high-end microcomputer designed for technical or scientific applications. Intended primarily to be used by one person at a time, they are commonly connected to a local area network and run multi-user operating systems. The term workstation has also been used to refer to a mainframe computer terminal or a PC connected to a network. Typically workstations had offered higher performance than personal computers, especially with respect to CPU and graphics, memory capacity and multitasking cability.

Workstation are optimized for the visualization and manipulation of different types of complex data such as 3D mechanical design, engineering simulation (e.g. computational fluid dynamics), animation and rendering of images, and mathematical plots. Consoles consist of a high resolution display, a keyboard and a mouse at a minimum, but also offer multiple displays, graphics tablets, 3D mice (devices for manipulating and navigating 3D objects and scenes), etc. Workstations are the first segment of the computer market to present advanced accessories and collaboration tools.

History of WorkstationIn early days workstations were generally dedicated minicomputers; a system designed to support a number of users would instead be reserved exclusively for one person. A notable example was the PDP-8 from Digital Equipment Corporation, regarded to be the first commercial minicomputer.Perhaps the first computer that might qualify as a “workstation” was the IBM 1620, a small scientific computer designed to be used interactively by a single person sitting at the console. It was introduced in 1959.

In 1965, IBM introduced the IBM 1130 scientific computer, which was meant as the successor to the 1620. Both of these systems came with the ability to run programs written in Fortran and other languages. Both the 1620 and the 1130 were built into roughly desk-sized cabinets. Both were available with add-on disk drives, printers, and both paper-tape and punched-card I/O. A console typewriter for direct interaction was standard on each. The Lisp machines developed at MIT in the early 1970s pioneered some of the principles of the workstation computer, as they were high-performance, single-user systems intended for heavily interactive use.

The first computer designed for single-users, with high-resolution graphics facilities (and so a workstation in the modern sense of the term) was the Xerox Alto developed at Xerox PARC in 1973. Other early workstations include the Three Rivers PERQ (1979) and the later Xerox Star (1981).In the early 1980s, with the advent of 32-bit microprocessors such as the Motorola 68000, a number of new participants in this field appeared, including Apollo Computer and Sun Microsystems, who created Unix-based workstations based on this processor.

Meanwhile DARPA’s VLSI Project created several spinoff graphics products as well, notably the SGI 3130, and Silicon Graphics’ range of machines that followed. It was not uncommon to differentiate the target market for the products, with Sun and Apollo considered to be network workstations, while the SGI machines were graphics workstations. As RISC microprocessors became available in the mid-1980s, these were adopted by many workstation vendors. PC- Home Computer Trends, Types and Technology Features of Workstations*ECC memoryWorkstations support the ECC memory.

* Memory Socketsa larger number of memory sockets which use registered (buffered) modules* Multiple processorsWorkstations uses the multiple processors in their CPU.* Multiple displaysIt is also common part in the workstations.*Professional Operating SystemWorkstations generally run a “business” or “professional” operating system version* ExpensiveWorkstations tended to be very expensive, typically several times the cost of a standard PC and sometimes costing as much as a new car. However, minicomputers sometimes cost as much as a house.

* Costly componentsThe high expense usually came from using costlier components that ran faster than those found at the local computer store, as well as the inclusion of features not found in PCs of the time, such as high-speed networking and sophisticated graphics. Workstation manufacturers also tend to take a “balanced” approach to system design, making certain to avoid bottlenecks so that data can flow unimpeded between the many different subsystems within a computer.*Higher Profit MarginsWorkstations given their more specialized nature, tend to have higher profit margins than commodity-driven PCs.

*SystemThe systems that come out of workstation companies often feature SCSI or Fibre Channel disk storage systems, high-end 3D accelerators, single or multiple 64-bit processors, large amounts of RAM, and well-designed cooling.* Good after sale serviceThe companies that make the products tend to have very good repair/replacement plans. Workstation – SuperFast PC of new worldLow Cost WorkstationsNow these days the line between workstation and PC is increasingly becoming blurred as the demand for fast computers, networking and graphics have become common in the consumer world, allowing workstation manufacturers to use “off the shelf” PC components and graphics solutions as opposed to proprietary in-house developed technology.

Some “low-cost” workstations are still expensive by PC standards, but offer binary compatibility with higher-end workstations and servers made by the same vendor. This allows software development to take place on low-cost (relative to the server) desktop machines. There have been several attempts to produce a workstation-like machine specifically for the lowest possible price point as opposed to performance. One approach is to remove local storage, pioneer audio receiver, and reduce the machine to the processor, keyboard, mouse and screen.

In some cases, these diskless nodes would still run a traditional OS and perform computations locally, with storage on a remote server. These approaches are intended not just to reduce the initial system purchase cost, but lower the total cost of ownership by reducing the amount of administration required per user. This approach was actually first attempted as a replacement for PCs in office productivity applications, with the 3Station by 3Com as an early example; in the 1990s, X terminals filled a similar role for technical computing.

Sun has also introduced “thin clients”, most notably its Sun Ray product line. However, traditional workstations and PCs continue to drop in price, which tends to undercut the market for products of this type. 21st Century cheap and power saving pc

New Electric Car Charger Cuts Down Recharging Time

Hybrid vehicles have become increasingly popular in the U.S, pioneer audio receiver, . since Toyota launched the Prius some time ago. The skyrocketing price of gasoline has driven American car buyers to opt for these fuel efficient vehicles which can run as much as 50 miles on a single gallon of gasoline.

In response to the demand for hybrid vehicles, car manufacturers are looking for ways to add another feature to the already fuel efficient hybrid vehicle.

The plug-in technology has already been knocking on the doors of the auto industry. This technology allows hybrid cars to be recharged from an ordinary household socket. This means that the battery pack integrated into the car to power the electric motor can be conveniently recharged and there is adequate power on call from the battery.

Aside from hybrid electric cars, there are also full time electric vehicles using the plug-in technology.

Pioneering in the manufacture of electric cars is ZAP.

This company has given American motorists with a choice of electric cars which are categorized as zero emission vehicles. This means that the cars from ZAP do not produce greenhouse gases which contribute to even greater global warming.

The three wheeled vehicles from ZAP are equipped with plug-in technology. Normally, electric cars need up to six hours to fully charge its battery pack. This means that you can charge your electric car while you are sleeping at night and wake up with your ZAP electric car juiced up and ready to go.

But developments in the auto industry is constant, and ZAP has announced that they are offering an electric car charger which cuts down charging time from hours to just thirty minutes.

The company said that the charger on the XEBRA, their electric car, can be configured to suit either a 110- or a 220-volt outlet. The revolutionary charger can provide up to 100 amps or 10,000 watts of electricity into the car. The company promises that the new charger will significantly increase the range of the XEBRA.

ZAP Chairman Gary Starr has this to say about the new charger: “This new charger can reduce your charge time from hours to minutes. Now you can drive your electric car all day with just a few short stops. In the time it takes to eat lunch you can hook your XEBRA up to the charger and have a full charge in less than an hour. Think of it as putting your XEBRA out to graze.”

The fact that the XEBRA is a zero emissions vehicle means that with its use, emission of greenhouse gases is limited to zero.

This shows that there are technologies available today which can put a stop to global warming as effectively as an EBC pad works when stopping a vehicle. And with the technology for these cars growing steadily, the use of electric cars like the XEBRA will surely gain momentum.

The Future of Solar Panel Technology Now

Look at the calculator on your desk. Chances are the sun powers your calculator. Just check for the familiar small, dark gray panels on the front of the calculator. If they are there, your calculator operates with solar panel technology.

How does that little solar cell help you do your job? It uses photovoltaic cells. Photovoltaic (PV) is combination of the words that mean light (photo) and electricity (voltaic). Photovoltaic cells or modules (groups of cells) convert the light of the sun directly into electricity.

It may seem exotic to use photovoltaic cells to power a small hand calculator, but solar panel technology is being applied to more common uses every day.

Here’s how PV cells turn sunlight into electricity. They are made of materials called semiconductors. A frequently used semiconductor is silicon. When the sun strikes the semiconductor, the silicon, pioneer audio receiver, soaks up some of the light. This transmits the energy within the sunlight to the semiconductor.

The energy breaks the electrons free, permitting them to flow unrestricted. To make something useful of all these free-floating electrons, the cells use electric or magnetic fields that drive the free electrons to flow like river, creating a current.

By inserting metal contacts at the top and bottom the PV cell, we can extract the current to power something outside the cell, like your calculator. The total wattage (or power) is determined by the extracted current added to the cell’s voltage.

Advances in solar panel technology may actual see the panel itself disappear.

The newest and most promising advance is the dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) technology. Michael Grätzel, a chemist at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, pioneered DSC, also called Grätzel cells, in 1991.

DSC is designed in layers: a photosensitive layer composed of nano-sized, ultrathin semiconductor crystals over a fine layer of titanium dioxide. When sunlight hits the photosensitive layer, the loose electrons collect on the layer of titanium dioxide and produce an electrical current.

A dye made of amorphous organic material covers the titanium dioxide — the dye absorbs sunlight and attracts free-flowing electrons, which creates a charge.

DSC lends itself to thin layers of photosensitive film. This transparent, lightweight, flexible and low-cost, sheets or dye film can be applied to the windows of your house or car, even to your sunglasses. The film generates a charge that can be applied to a small battery to power anything, including your phone or MP3 device.

The military even has applications for the DCS technology.

The film can be applied to tents to power lights and laptops. In larger applications, it could power entire command centers. It could cover backpacks or be made into wearable solar panels and power a soldier’s electrical devices, eliminating the need for bulky and heavy supplies of batteries.

Types of Diesel Engines in Cars

Diesel engines are the favourite of Indian car manufacturers on cars ranging from small cars to ultra luxury cars. Off late diesel engine has shed the ‘dirty’ term attracted. It is now one of the cleanest fuel technologies which offer great care to engines while delivering high fuel efficiency. Thanks to some pioneering work by German car manufacturer like Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen in bring in cleaner diesel technologies. But diesel, the cheaper sibling of petrol, has been available since the early 19th century.

Diesel as a fuel was invested by Rudolf Diesel in 1893. For the first time he demonstrated that diesel engines uses internal combustion through compression. Ignition is developed under high pressure and high temperature environment. It was widely used in larger vehicles like the trucks, and trains for a long time. Comparatively, the petrol engine creates fuel combustion by igniting the fuel through sparks. In the past decade diesel engines have undergone a dramatic change. Numerous technological advancements have helped improve its performance, quietness, acceleration and emission.

Other modern equipments like turbochargers, electronic fuel injection, multi-point fuel injection and other technological advancements. Some of the different types of diesel engines are Common Rail Direct Injection The Common Rail Direct injection or CRDI is a modern invention of the direct injection system in engine. It is mostly used in Diesel engines though it can be used for petrol engines too. CRDI improves performance, increases mileage and helps keep the engine intact. This performance oriented diesel engine type is found in Hyundai Accent, Mahindra vehicles as CRDe, BMWs and Ford Motors.

Though this was initially developed by inventor Robert Huber of Switzerland it was made applicable for wide use in automobiles by Fiat Group which ultimately sold it to German company Robert Bosch. Common rails were first utilized by, pioneer audio receiver, Denso In 1997 it was used in passenger cars and since then has been wide used in engines developed by Bosch. The advantages of CRDI made its very popular among urban car buyers in early part of this decade.

Multijet Fuel Injection This types of diesel engine system was also developed by Fiat. It improved performance of CRDI engines vastly. It is widely used in Indian car such as Maruti Suzuki Swift Diesel, Swift Dzire, Fiat Palio and others. Engines use injectors to receive inputs of fuel to the combustion chamber. Injectors are precise spring-loaded valves that open and close at a specific fuel pressure to produce energy. Rather than a central point of injection of fuel, multiple points are synchronized are release predetermined amount of fuel to the combustion chamber.

Di Turbocharged The mirrors image of Multijet is the direct injection turbocharged engine. Since Direct Injection(DI) emitted high amounts of emission, a turbocharger was fitted to it. The turbo charged engine helped increased performance and reduced emission drastically. The direct injection works on low compression rate which was considered a drawback by many. The DI turbocharged engines are used in Skoda Octavia. Naturally Aspirated It is an indirect injection engine without a turbocharger. Cars using these engines draw air through air filters and pass it through a meter.

This meter monitors and regulates the passage of air to the engine combustion chamber. Naturally aspirated engines produce less power. However, they are popular because they are cheaper than turbocharged engines.

Health Insurance-a Surprise Graduation Gift

Instead of a computer or a car, parents looking for a useful gift for a new college grad may want to consider health insurance.

New college graduates and their parents are often surprised to learn, pioneer audio receiver, that many health insurance plans stop providing coverage to adult children through a parent’s plan even when they are living at home.

Typically, most adult children who are students will lose their coverage when they attain a certain age, graduate or are no longer attending school on a full-time basis.

Since most of these new college graduates won’t have coverage until after they have found a job, many find themselves falling through a gap in coverage.

The number of young adults who fall into this category can be significant. According to a 2002 Census Bureau report, 18-to-24-year-olds are the least likely age group to have health insurance coverage.

Some find an effective way to address this need is with a type of product called temporary or short-term medical insurance. Such policies are designed to fill short gaps in health insurance coverage and usually cover periods ranging from one to six months.

Exact length of coverage may vary by state and company.

For example, Assurant Health -a company that helped to pioneer the concept of short-term coverage-offers policies that typically cover periods of 30 to 185 days. Generally, this type of plan is more affordable than permanent insurance plans because the insurer is taking less risk.

Because temporary policies are usually designed to cover the unexpected, most do not include coverage for preventive care, physicals, immunizations, dental or eye care.

Also, temporary policies generally do not cover pre-existing conditions.

While typical customers for short-term medical insurance are graduating students no longer covered by a family plan, but not yet covered by an employer’s group plan, the policy may also be of interest to others. People changing jobs or making a transition to a new career, or new employees facing a short waiting period before becoming eligible for an employer’s group insurance plan, may find that it fills a need.
